Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that straightens your teeth and jaw with plastic mouthpieces instead of metal archwires, brackets, and rubber bands.
Specifically, Invisalign uses SmartTrack® –– a durable and FDA-approved thermoplastic. SmartTrack contains no chemicals, latex, or gluten, making it safe for pregnant women and people with allergies.
Dr. Ovsepian and the team use Invisalign to correct mild and moderate alignment issues, including:
You might also benefit from Invisalign if you have a misaligned or malpositioned jaw.
Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation. During your appointment, Dr. Ovsepian conducts an oral exam and asks what you like and dislike about your smile. Afterward, he takes oral X-rays to assess the position and alignment of your teeth and jaw.
If Dr. Ovsepian uncovers any alignment issues, he takes digital impressions of your mouth and uploads them to a computer design program. Then, Dr. Ovsepian uses the design program to develop an orthodontic treatment plan that maps the movements of your teeth and jaw.
After finalizing the plan, Dr. Ovsepian sends your impressions to an Invisalign laboratory. Technicians at the laboratory use your impressions to design and manufacture a custom set of oral aligners.
When the laboratory completes your first set of aligners, you visit Plenty O’ Smiles and try them on. Dr. Ovsepian makes adjustments as necessary and provides care instructions.
Most people complete treatment with Invisalign in between six and 12* months but it can take longer. To ensure treatment goes as quickly as possible, wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day, only removing them to brush and floss or eat.
Throughout the course of orthodontic care, you visit Dr. Ovsepian and the team every two or three weeks. At each visit, you transition into a new set of aligners that place slightly different pressure on your teeth and jaw.
